CompleteRx Recognizes Employees, Clients with Annual Quality Awards

CompleteRx recently announced the winners of its 2017 company awards at a town hall meeting broadcast live to offices across the U.S.

“Each year, we take a moment to acknowledge the outstanding work performed across our network of hospital pharmacies with these awards,” said Terry Andrus, CEO. “It’s always hard to choose among such excellent nominees. Handing out such well-deserved recognition to our team members is absolutely one of my favorite parts of this job.”

Winners of the 2017 CompleteRx Awards are:

Team Covenant Award

Since 1998, the Team Covenant Award has honored employees and customers who best exemplify and consistently demonstrate the CompleteRx Team Covenant Values. This year’s winners are:

  • Cynthia (Cindy) Hernandez, Pharmacy Technician, South Shore Hospital
  • Greg Sutphen, Regional Financial Analyst, Headquarters

Pharmacy technician Cindy Hernandez has worked at South Shore Hospital for 30 years and her loyalty to her profession, the company, and the facility are unmatched. Cindy regularly mentors new hires, trains students and leads by example through her professionalism and respect for others.

Regional financial analyst Greg Sutphen operates from the CompleteRx Houston headquarters. Greg was nominated because of his dedication to 340B education and compliance. “He proactively pursues new approaches to help our hospital partners avoid pitfalls and optimize their 340B program; or help them prepare when such occasions arise to mitigate or ameliorate any negative results.”

Patient Care Award – South Shore Hospital

The Patient Care Award recognizes an individual or team that has implemented a program which helped to improve patient outcomes or safety through improved pharmacy practice. This year’s winner, South Shore Hospital in Chicago, Illinois won for its revised process of obtaining hospital patients’ home medication list.

Prior to implementation of the program, a list of medications taken at home was gathered by the nursing staff, primarily those in the emergency department staff. Since emergency personnel were generally busy handling acute situations, time was limited for them to devote to ensuring a full medication history. Plus, medication lists would carry over from previous visits, leaving another chance for mistakes to creep into the system.

To alleviate this problem, the pharmacy, led by technician Denitra Griffin and pharmacist Kyle Johnicker, worked with emergency department staff to develop procedures for pharmacy technicians to gather each patient’s home medication list.

A pharmacy technician was assigned to the emergency department, freeing nurses to concentrate on direct patient care.

The new system allows a staff member with in-depth knowledge of medication names and a close relationship to the pharmacists to be tasked with entering the home medication list. This not only improved accuracy of the information, it also streamlined the patient experience.

Results have been overwhelming positive, and the nursing staff has requested the program be expanded.

Performance Improvement Award – Hunt Regional Medical Center

The Performance Improvement Award recognizes an individual or team that implemented a program to improve pharmacy operations resulting in improved efficiency, quality, and customer service.

This year’s winner, Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville, Texas is recognized for their work with the on-site Infusion Therapy Center. A team led by Greg Sutphen, Krishna Chary, Rodney Gibson and Jason Pugh, developed and launched a new process for ensuring accurate and timely analysis of patient eligibility for the busy infusion center.

Rural cancer patients often face substantial barriers to receiving treatment, including availability of cancer care providers, distance to services, lack of public transportation and financial barriers.  Hunt Regional is committed to developing innovative, patient-centered care delivery methods for cancer patients in Hunt County.  Without it, county residents would have to travel over 50 miles to receive treatment.

Complete Pharmacy Award

The Complete Pharmacy Award goes to those hospital pharmacies that meet all four of our criteria for excellence. This year’s winners are:

To win this coveted award, the hospital pharmacy must surpass four key performance metrics that indicate the highest standards of professionalism and dedication to excellence.
