It’s two o’clock on Tuesday afternoon when a sharply dressed woman walks into the pharmacy at Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville, Texas. The Director of Pharmacy, Heather Rochford, looks up from her desk and smiles. “I was instantly impressed,” she explains, “I had scheduled the interview at two PM knowing she had an evening shift at three. I fully expected her to be dressed in scrubs, she’s in EVS, so she could go straight to her shift. No, she came full-blown professionally dressed for an interview. I was like, ‘wow, you don’t see that these days.”
After a very impressive interview with Environmental Services Employee (EVS), BaiLee Aimes, Rochford was certain she had found her newest pharmacy technician. “We watched her as she quickly ran out to her car, grabbed her stuff, and ran to her shift. This girl was good, not just good, she’s… polished, very polished,” Rochford explained.
This is my impression of BaiLee the moment she answers the phone. She is sweet, dedicated and very professional. I soon find out how passionate and determined she is about her future in pharmacy. “I love it, I really enjoy it. [Pharmacy] is so much more than I thought it was. I’m fascinated by medications and the impact they have on people,” Aimes explains.
Aimes’ pharmacy journey began just few short years before. Her mother, a longtime nurse, had inspired her to pursue a career in healthcare. “It’s a little much, but my mom and I saw a bad car accident when I was a kid. I watched her help a man that had been thrown from his car,” Aimes details, “it was amazing to see her help.” Aimes later took a volunteer position at Hunt RMC and was eventually hired on to the EVS department. Unsure of exactly which route she would take in healthcare; Aimes was determined to help people and make a difference. “I wanted to be in healthcare to help people, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do,” Aimes says. It was a colleague that referred her to the pharmacy. “I love to bake. Measuring and mixing ingredients is fun, so I thought, I’ll give it a try,” Aimes explains.
Rochford knew almost instantly that Aimes would fit right into their pharmacy family. Aimes had plenty to learn in the pharmacy, but Rochford was certain she was willing and ready. “The director of EVS had reached out to me and suggested we give her a chance. They didn’t want to lose her, but this was what she wanted,” Rochford explains. Aimes took to her role as a pharmacy technician immediately. The role of pharmacy tech is fast paced and deeply process oriented. Aimes learned quickly. “She’s a very fast learner, always asking questions – good questions. She’s always willing to help wherever we may need someone. Now she’s training the new technician that will back fill her role as she continues to pursue pharmacy school,” Rochford shares.
This willingness and passion have pushed Aimes to continue with her journey in pharmacy. “So, I’m working towards pharmacy school now once I finish my undergrad,” Aimes explains
Between her shifts in the pharmacy and her classes at Paris Junior College, it’s hard to imagine how Aimes finds time to enjoy baking and other hobbies. But Aimes is laser focused. Her goals and mind are set, and it’s easy to see her passion and determination are, certainly, going to take her there. “I want to be a pharmacist. I’m going to graduate and come back here to Hunt,” Aimes shares. And, boy, we can’t wait to continue to watch her succeed!
Rochford and everyone at Hunt RMC and CompleteRx are cheering Aimes on the entire way! “We are very proud of her. Like I said, she’s always been so impressive since I first met her. I know she’s going to go far,” Rochford says.
So, from all of us at CompleteRx, keep it up, BaiLee! You are going to continue to do BIG things in Pharmacy!
To BaiLee and the entire team at Hunt RMC, Happy Pharmacy Week!
